A Look to the Future

After my hopes for a grandchild were recently dashed, I mentioned that I packed away the yarn and patterns and the finished baby sweater. One thing I didn't do was cancel the sweater kit I had ordered.

It had been on back order, so it was a week or two later that it arrived. And here it is. Several little skeins of a yarn called "Dream in Color Smooshy" and it is a washable wool. What a riot of color!

And here is the picture on the front of the kit. It's called The Tulip Baby Sweater.

Isn't it a happy sweater? I have the 12 - 18 month size. I think it is neutral enough; it has a bit of pink, but much more blue.

Once I get word in the future of the chance of granny-hood, I will knit this. Or maybe even before. Hopefully that day will still come.

AWOL

Gosh, has it really been more than ten days? That isn't the way to build a loyal reader base. I have been busy though.

The wallaby sweater for Grace has two sleeves ready to join. And the body is growing right along. I have finished the pocket flap and another couple inches or so on the body before I join it to the pocket.

And I have started a new project with the black cotton sport weight.

I just love the feel of the the Knit Pick's Shine so I dug out my Knitter's Handy Book of Top Down Sweater Patterns. I am working on making a raglan cardigan with 3/4 sleeves and adding an eyelet row every few rows. With larger needles, and with lighter colored ones it is going well so far. I ordered some new needle tips fir my Knit Picks Options in the light color--Sunstruck, so I can switch to longer needles when needed. And still see the needles.

I like this project so much I even went button shopping: clear flowery ones, a tonal gray set, and some shiny little black ball buttons. I am leaning toward the clear ones right now. Whatever I don't use will be added to the button can.

And Non-Progress Report

A great day today, celebrating the coming birth of the baby of some friends. Lots of fun, and I got some baby time with my little buddy Max again.

I finally met Older Son's girl friend, and her daughter. The daughter's sweater was approved of and the sleeve fit at least.

But when I got home, I reviewed some of my projects, and decided to visit the frog pond. The black cotton tee was the first to go. I wasn't going back to knit on It because the dark yarn on my dark size two needles were hard to see. Not to mention slow going. Two balls rewound.

That was at least something that had been worked on this year. The other project was probably from 2005 or 2006. I had started a simple feather and fan shawl out of a skein of Helen's Lace in aqua with blue and purple. I also has a skein of solid JaggerSpun Zephyr in aqua. Both are 50/50 wool silk blends. But I hadn't touched that project in years. So it was frogged as well. Granted, that was ripped back, because I wanted the size 5 needles, but ripped none the less.

So only negative progress today, aside from the second sleeve on my pink purple sweater. But I did gain more yarn to knit. For free!

Progress report

I was just browsing through my Ravelry projects, where I record all my knitting for referral. And in so doing I realized that my newest project is my eighth (count them! 8!) sweater of the year. Of course only two were for me, but I am still plugging away on my Duchess of Cambridge Featherweight. So I hope to finish that this year as well.

My current new project is for the daughter of Oldest Son's girlfriend. It is in the oldest child's size of wallaby. As is usually the case when I knit for children, it is using Plymouth Encore, a washable wool blend.

I also finished the Wee Baby Socks....

And the Lil' Sparty with a Touch of Maize is also awaiting gifting with the socks.

So, with all these finished projects for the year, I am pondering which sweater for me next. I have a fair amount of stashed yarn...no need to buy any. I also have sweater quantity of handspun for at least two sweaters. All the baby excitement made me lose track of my mental queue.

What to do, what to do?

And then.....I always wanted to make a Stonington Shawl by Elizabeth Zimmermann. Hmmmm. Time to knit and think.

Life Goes On

A lot has been going on, since my last posting. As I grieved, I also looked ahead. The knitting continued and the Best Bud's Baby's sweater is done and awaiting packaging. Or it will when I weave in the rest of the ends.

I also finished the first wee sock. Isn't it adorable. I am also almost to the heel flap on the second. That ribbing does go slow. And of course, small dog included for scale.

Last week was the local 4H fair. I was able to attend Wednesday evening and all day Thursday. I made friends with an little cutie.

And we watched the next day while his big brother's Jersey cow won Supreme Dairy Cow over a massive Holstein. Yea!

Then when I got home Friday, suddenly my movie watching ran into a hitch.

Yikes! Especially when you realize the blurry three quarters of the screen is constantly rolling. Television shopping is in my near, very near future.

Comfort

I had a hard time sleeping last night. But then I remembered reading "Heaven is For Real," about the little boy who was in a coma. When he awoke, he made several remarks about being with Jesus in heaven. He also asked his parents why they never told him about his sister. A sister who was miscarried before birth. The parents came to realize he had been in heaven during the coma.

I feel better knowing I will someday get to see our lost Little One.

Picked Up, Packed Away

The baby sweater has been folded up and put in the wool room. The baby patterns carefully put in a special folder. The yarn selected and purchased for those special sweaters has been sorted out and put away.

My dreams of granny hood are also packed away for another day.

Our family will miss knowing you, Little One.

Crafting in Movies

While watching an old movie today, (A Majority of One with Alec Guinness as a Japanese businessman and Rosalind Russell as a Yiddish mother), I noticed Rosalind crocheting. Recently, while enjoying the 1939 version of The Women, I spotted her knitting while at the fashion show.

And of course Bette Davis was also a movie crafter. She was knitting in Now Voyager and crocheting in The Letter. And there were probably other actors and movies that I have forgotten.

I love catching glimpses of my crafts in old movies. I sometimes wonder if that was in the script or if the actresses added that bit of magic on their own. I haven't caught anyone using a spinning wheel yet though; I'll have to watch closer.

In knitting news I have joined the sleeves, and started the garter stitch placket on the Best Bud's Baby's Sweater. I should be at the dividing point soon. I hope to get to the hood by tomorrow. With a good movie tonight (Lawrence of Arabia....still part of Alec Guinness day.) and the NASCAR race tomorrow (Poconos!) I should get plenty of knitting done.

And maybe I can find time to work on my seat pads, using my humungus new hook.
